Wellingtons in the Park finally launches with its official poster that will be donning street corners, pubs, clubs, shop windows and the odd occassional local retailer. Not only that but a special poster is being designed for those shops that are donating or helping out with the event itself – watch this space for upcoming news!

This is Bagheera. She has a busy life and as such, she has a car to get her from A-B, but it’s been a while since she’s hopped onto a bike and cycled. For her challenge, she’s going to cycle around our park, West Park, where our event is happening 100 times. And she’s going to try and do it in one day.

This is Rikki. Rikki is a tough man, but he also has one thing all men often get – hairy legs. For his challenge, he’s going to bare all and get his legs waxed, at least 100 hairs have to be pulled off (if he chickens out). He’ll be as smooth as a babys bum, well his legs will be.

Can he suffer the pain of all those hairs being stripped off like a plaster? Can he raise the £100 and endure the pressure? Will he continue with it after the events over?

This is Raksha. Raksha is known to talk a lot, which is sometimes good but sometimes it’s hard to get a word in edgeways. For her sponsored event, Raksha is going to stay silence for 100 hours (that’s 4 days and 4 hours) and not even going to say a peep. That also means she can’t shout at her own kids!

Can Raksha stay tightlipped for that period of time? Will she be able to mute her own voice in her head? Can she ever have a quiet life?

This is Hathi. Hathi isn’t a great swimmer, but she can at least do a few lengths here and there without being tired out. For her sponsored event, she’s going to attempt to swim 100 lengths without a break. This means from one end of the pool to another and back again in just one stroke.

Can she swim the 100 lengths she needs? Will she ever gasp for breath just so a lifeguard can save her? Can she receive £100 for Cubs?

This is Rainbow. Rainbow is our Beaver Leader. She loves to bake, to a point where she decided to celebrate our 100th year of Scouting to do 100 bakesales. This means that she’ll be baking non-stop almost from cakes, cookies, puddings galore. For each bakesale, she’s asking for small donations and contributions.

Can she bake until she can no longer bake anymore? Will she collect over £100 worth of sponsors? Will she ever get sick of her rolling pin?

The New Standard (a magazine that distributes around the St. Andrew’s area of Hull for free) commented on the upcoming “Wellingtons in the Park” event coming to West Park on April 3rd 2010. The article includes a brief discussion with Celia “Shep” Beaumont regarding the group and our search on finding old Wellington (and Wellington-St. Matthews) members who have joined the group during the 100 years.

“Despite what many of the boys think, I was not around when the Scout Group was formed 100 years ago! I have, however, been involved with the group for the last 40 years and I’m thrilled that we’ve reached our centenary still going strong.”

To celebrate their 100th years, Wellington-St. Matthews Scout Group is going all out by booking West Park in Hull for one day only as a massive event in the park called “Wellingtons in the Park”.

The day will involve challenges, fun, music, laughter, tons of photographs, you name it we’re going to have it. Our party in the park will allow people from all ages to enjoy themselves throughout the day and never want to leave (even if the weather is bad). We’ll be partying, playing games, having tons of food and sending some balloons to the heavens.

We’re also needing your help! Although we’re getting this place packed, if you’re wanting to have a stall, help out, generally give us a helping hand or even own a business in the Hull area that wants to sponsor the event and give us enough money to have everything we want to pack the biggest area we’ve ever had to fill for a long period of time, then please there are several ways to contact us.
